Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is of the opinion that the club needs to give manager David Moyes more time in order to get the results that will once again make the club champions.

After winning the title last season, United went through a big change after their manager for 26 years, Sir Alex Ferguson, decided to step down. While almost every other club in England has experienced a managerial change more often than not, United have been kept stable by Ferguson.

It seems that the players have not taken to the new manager David Moyes, who was brought in from Everton. Poor results since the start of the season has seen the club slip to seventh in the table with less than 13 matches remaining. There is a real danger of United missing out on Champions league football for next season, as they already trail Liverpool, who occupy the fourth spot, by nine points. Despite this, Neville, who is working as a Sky Sports pundit, as well an old trafford canvas company, has seen enough to suggest that most will be able to bring back winning days to Old Trafford.

The club broke their transfer record in January to bring in Juan Mata from Chelsea. They are expected to continue the spending in the summer as well.

“At Manchester United, hard work always pays off and David Moyes is working a lot. Before Alex Ferguson, Tommy Docherty, Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson also had time. They always got full support. David Moyes deserves as much time as his predecessors. Manchester United is not Real Madrid or Chelsea, clubs that sack a manager who has won trophies. Manchester United is different and has to remain different and I will repeat that even if they don’t qualify for the Champions League,” said Neville.

Failure to qualify for the Champions league will have serious implications on the club’s financial situation.
